Micronutrients are the vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients the body requires in smaller doses to carry out vital physiological functions.

Explanation

  • Micronutrients act as coenzymes throughout the body to support immunity, bone health, metabolism, vision health and provide antioxidant effects.
  • Important micronutrients include vitamin D, calcium, iron, potassium, selenium, zinc, B vitamins, vitamin C and vitamin A among others.
  • While only required in milligrams or micrograms, consuming a variety of nutrient dense whole foods prevents deficiencies that can hinder performance.
  • Choose colorful fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins to obtain a full spectrum of micronutrients. Supplement if at risk for deficiencies.
