Ephedrine is a stimulant compound that acts similar to adrenaline. It was used in dietary supplements for weight loss and athletic performance but has since been banned.

- Ephedrine promotes fat loss by increasing metabolism and reducing appetite. It carries risks of high blood pressure, stroke, and heart attack however.
- Previously found in ephedra-containing supplements, ephedrine is now a controlled substance banned by the FDA since 2004.
- Ephedrine alkaloids are still found in some weight loss, energy, and pre workout products, but in lower “safe” doses.
- Negative side effects include anxiety, tremors, headaches, dizziness, and digestive issues. It’s banned in organized sports.
- Alternatives for fat loss include caffeine, green tea, synephrine, novamin, cayenne pepper, and bitter orange extract.
