What is Cool Down?

DEFINITION

A cool down is a period of light physical activity and stretching performed after more intense exercise.

EXPLANATION

A proper cool down allows your heart rate and breathing to gradually return to normal levels. It also helps avoid dizziness, nausea, and other symptoms caused by the sudden stopping of intense activity. Cool downs prepare your body to transition from exercise back to a resting state.

Cool downs typically last 5-10 minutes and consist of light cardio like walking or slow jogging. Dynamic stretches are also commonly incorporated to enhance flexibility. This helps reduce post-workout muscle tightness and soreness.
